For many devoted females viewers of the hit sci-fi television series “The X-Files,” the show wasn’t just entertaining, it was was life-changing. Women who regularly tuned into “The X-Files” were 50% more likely to have worked in a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) field, according to a recent survey conducted by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Nearly all the women surveyed who were familiar with the series’ lead character, a female doctor and FBI agent named Dana Scully, said she is a role model for girls and women. And close to two-thirds attributed their belief in the importance of STEM to the fictional character.
The survey’s findings validate fans’ long-held belief in “The Scully Effect,” which suggests that women became interested in science fields because of Scully, played by actress Gillian Anderson throughout the show’s eleven seasons.
I just realized that Remember Them is actually the first time we hear Odysseus’s name in the show. Before that they address him exclusively as Friend, Captain or Just a Man. They could properly introduce him so many times. There’s could be a moment in The Horse and the Infant. Polites could easily call him by his name in Open Arms. And for the love of gods Odysseus purposely doesn’t reveal his name in Warrior of the Mind nor in Polyphemus. This is the moment when we hear his name. The moment the show actually name it’s protagonist. In the moment of his hubris, the moment of pride and the moment that lead him to his own downfall later on, that the show focus on. LIKE IF THAT WAS A SHOW ON STAGE AND AUDIENCE ACTUALLY DIDN’T KNOW IT’S ABOUT THE ODYSSEY IT WOULD BE THE TIME THEY LEARN HIS NAME FOR THE FIRST TIME HOW COOL IS IT
Thought my coworker was giving me a weird look bc my hair looks like shit today, I didn’t realize I was wearing my stupid fucking ass eating t-shirt
A while back Brian David Gilbert was selling these “I love eating junk food and playing classic games do u?” Shirts that become “I love eating ass do u?” When you wear a jacket over it. I thought it was a good purchase and bought one, swearing to myself I’d never absent-mindedly wear it to an actual important place, like work. I failed today
my favorite work memory from this store will always be “hey remember when the subway inside the store closed down and they let me take a bunch of their shit for free and now it lives inside my house?”
imagine being King of all Greeks, supreme leader of the Achaean army, the main force responsible for the destruction of the great city of Troy, only to be identified in the future as a misogynist
I have a zombie gnome on little stump by my front porch.
Today, I saw some kid walking to the bus stop, turn and come up my walkway.
Gently, he knelt down beside my gnome, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a smaller gnome with a rainbow hat. He carefully placed the little guy on the stump, then turned and went to the bus.
I went out to take a look and it looks like the little guy was hand painted to match the zombies facial expression.
I think I’m going to treasure this for the rest of my life. Yeah, there’s good in the world. And the kids are alright.
Homer: This is the lead hero of my second epic poem. He has a mind like Zeus’ own and possesses unparalleled strength, courage, nobility, cunning, and wit. He’s nearly undefeated in battle and has mercilessly overcome every trial he has faced.
